Reuters-Slumping crude prices and a dour start to Wall Street’s corporate earnings season pulled down U.S. and European equities on Tuesday, while the dollar hit an eight-month high on increasing bets U.S. interest rates will rise in December.

Wall Street fell more than 1 percent as shares of aluminum producer Alcoa (AA.N) and diagnostics test maker Illumina (ILMN.O) plunged, with worries over the make-up of the U.S. Congress after November’s election also weighing on stocks.

Alcoa shares tumbled 11.4 percent and Illumina plummeted 24.8 percent, casting a pall over the market. Wall Street’s “fear gauge,” the CBOE Market Volatility index .VIX, jumped almost 24 percent at one point and ended the day up 15 percent.

Investors were also jittery about earnings to be reported on Friday by Wells Fargo (WFC.N) and Citigroup (C.N), according to brokerage Seaport Global.

The UK benchmark FTSE 100 equity index .FTSE reversed course after it set a record intraday high that was helped by further sterling weakness.

The British pound has lost more than 4 percent of its value against the dollar over the past week as investors fret about a “hard exit” by Britain from the European Union.

In the United States, investors were looking to Wednesday’s release of minutes from the Fed’s policy-setting meeting in September for signs of a December interest rate hike.

The futures market perceives a roughly 70 percent chance that the Fed will lift rates in December, a view that pushed the benchmark 10-year U.S. Treasury yield US10YT=RR to a more than four-month high.

On Tuesday, US stocks closed lower after aluminum giant Alcoa Inc.’s results cast a shadow over the broader market as the 3Q earnings season got under way. Rising expectations for a rate increase in December are pushing up the USD as well as Treasury yields. In other currencies, the pound marked fresh losses after media reports of leaked government papers that predict the country stands to lose £66b a year in tax revenue in the event of a clean break with the EU.

Logic Trading Analysis:
BURSA MALAYSIA MARKET IDEAS WEDNESDAY (11/10/2016):

FBMKLCI NOTHING BETTER CAN BOOST MARKET

Dear All,

The FBMKLCI closed higher at +3.4 point or +0.02% to close at 1668.72.

FBMKLCI just almost want to start a uptrend but seem to be another failure and fake hope. Most probably will remain sideways and at worst go further downtrend.

DJIA is another joker, if today close low, wipe off all yesterday gain once again. Market remain very volatile, very undecided, and weak.

Although yesterday market looks ok, a few premium stock picks like CANONE, BPURI, SALCON, MYEG wake up, but in view of high uncertainty in our market, we remain to be more careful than less playful.

You can follow any SIFU a thousand miles but don’t blind folded this Wednesday !

“Goreng Tetap Goreng” !
Yours Sincerely,

Reuters-Wall Street rose on Monday morning amid gains across most sectors, driven by oil prices, and as Democrat Hillary Clinton was widely seen as the winner of the second presidential debate.

A Clinton presidency would be more positive for the markets because her positions are more well known than those of her Republican rival Donald Trump, according to a Reuters poll.

A CNN/ORC snap poll of debate watchers found that 57 percent thought Clinton won the encounter, versus 34 percent for Trump.

Oil prices rose 2.8 percent and touched their one-year high as speculators raised bets that prices would gain on the back of an agreement among OPEC producers to rein in record output levels. [O/R]

“Investors will ponder the presidential debate and follow the events in the commodity markets, especially oil,” said Peter Cardillo, chief market economist at First Standard Financial in New York.

Investors are also bracing for the third-quarter earnings season, which unofficially kicks off on Tuesday when aluminum producer Alcoa (AA.N) reports.

“The markets seem to be looking for a repeat of last quarter, with most companies exceeding Street consensus but obviously on a scaled back earnings growth,” Cardillo said.

Earnings of S&P 500 companies are expected to drop 0.7 percent, according to Thomson Reuters data.

The dollar .DXY, which has been swinging between gains and losses for the past five trading days, was up 0.2 percent against a basket of major currencies. The pound GBP= fell again on Monday.

The U.S. bond market was closed for the Columbus Day holiday.

At 9:39 a.m. ET (1339 GMT), the Dow Jones Industrial Average .DJI was up 127.61 points, or 0.7 percent, at 18,368.1.

The S&P 500 .SPX was up 12.42 points, or 0.58 percent, at 2,166.16 and the Nasdaq Composite .IXIC was up 34.29 points, or 0.65 percent, at 5,326.70.

Reuters-The International Monetary Fund said on Sunday it is still fully engaged in talks to join the Greek bailout program and has not yet decided on what role it will take.

The IMF’s comment came after two sources with direct knowledge of the Greek bailout talks told Reuters on Saturday that negotiations for the fund to commit financial resources to the program are making little headway and the IMF likely would accept a special advisory status with limited powers.

“We remain fully engaged, with the aim of reaching agreement on a program that the fund can support with a new arrangement, as requested by the authorities,” IMF spokesman Gerry Rice said in an emailed statement on Sunday. “In this regard a mission team will visit Athens soon.”

Poul Thomsen, the IMF’s European Department director, said on Friday an IMF team would visit Athens in about a week or two to discuss a new program.

The IMF has been holding out for more than a year over the terms under which it would participate in any new Greek bailout, arguing that the fiscal targets set in the European bailout are unrealistic without major debt relief for Greece.

The sources told Reuters the IMF is increasingly resigned to European resistance to further Greek debt relief and is now in talks to accept a newly created role that would keep it at the table and let it play a part with limited formality.

Dear Savvy Investors,

KLCI closed low at 1,665 while DJIA closed little lower at 18,240.
The rest of the market around us closed low except for CHINA A50 which closed a little higher.
Australian ASX 200, HONG KONG HSI, Indonesia IDX, Jappan Nikkei, Korea Kospi, Taiwan Weighted, German Dax and Singapore STI all closed lower, hence I am expecting a not-so-exciting market this Monday.

• Rubber priced have lowered by a lot, hence a lot of BIG Rubber producers like KLK and SIME have been lowering their production in conjunction with TRC agreement to reduce exports to ease the supply glut.
• Sugar price has increase hence it will be higher operating cost for related counters like cocoland (although they said it is manageable), Nestle will be slightly affected and other sugar counter such as APOLLO, F&N, OFI, Hupseng , Dlady. MSM will be badly impacted.
• Perisai might be causing a domino effect to all the Oil and Gas Counters which are in debt. Hence trade cautiously in Oil And Gas Counters, although the Oil price is rallying, however for companies to start making money in Oil And Gas Industries, the current price is still way below the breakeven price of $58. Also, I think that OPEC will come out with an announcement stating that Agreement has not been sign.

Friday 8/10/2016 market ideas:

1. A&M: This one really need to put in important watchlist.

Continuation of stocks in our Watchlist :
1. Kimlun (midterm): seems seller not much, much more to go. First mentioned 2.14, highest is 2.22 lowest is 2.14, cut loss is at 2.06.
2. OCNCASH (midterm / contra) both also can. As long as it stay above the 0.4 line, it will have chance to shoot up. Strongly supported at 0.41, hopefully it will go lower to enable for collection.
3. WCT: First mentioned at 1.64, highest 1.72, currently at 1.68 which is the support.
4. Pwf (20/9) mentioned at 0.74 and reached a higest of 0.79. currently is at 0.785. lock profit it closes below 0.77
5. Suncon: 28/9 was at 1.62 level reached a highest of 1.73. If you have these just continue to hold. Already bullish, any retracement can consider to increase position in Suncon. Will be Seeing some correction.

6. HEVEA: Congrats if you have this. I already sold 1/2 of my holdings in this counter. However since there are many more sifu, guru, leaders who just start to notice this , I guess I will continue to hold on to this counter. I will cut if it fall below 1.29 else my TP for this is 1.40.
7. TALIWRK (refer to 6/10) don’t see many sellers for this counter. It will climb higher. 1.5 is the support is a nice time to enter ( cut if fall below 1.47)
8. OWG : bullish signs appear, it is now at its support. OWG cut if below 2.24. still above support line.
9. SKPETRO and DIALOG to rally along with oil. Just monitor oil price and then that will decide for you to whether continue stay in this counter. DIALOG cut loss at 1.51, SKPetro cutloss 1.60.

FBMKLCI BE CAREFUL AS DJIA NEVER BEEN SO STRANGE

Dear All,

The FBMKLCI closed lower at -1.35 point or -0.08% to close at 1665.38.

FBMKLCI last week very minimal moves, well supported but most of the stock not seem to be active and remain weak sentiment.

DJIA ever since the big fall on 9/9 until now, the movement has become highly unusual and have been never so volatile and undecided.

Personally don’t really like current market movement, it’s not normal and something unpredictable that will happen anytime.

Of course if nothing happen, then our market might slowly recovering the goreng mood and stock that remain in our list are like: MYEG, HEVEA, IQGROUP, WCT, TEKSENG.

Despite the firmer oil prices, the FBMKLCI was down by 1.35pts or 0.08% last Friday as investors waited for the US jobs numbers for an indication on the potential hike in the US interest rate in the months ahead. This week, the local market sentiment might be positive due to the pre-budget rally. Moreover, the recent rebound probably signals that a triangle pattern may be taking form. If this is the case, prices may climb to test the 1,675-1,680 resistance zones in the near term. We would only turn bullish for the short term if the index can push above 1,692-1,700. Resistance: 1,675 & 1,692. Support: 1,645 & 1,620.

Friday, 7 October 2016

Dear Retailers,

KLCI up +3.81 to close higher at 1,666.73, DJIA currently unsure of its direction and sits at 18,268. Crude oil is trading at 50, USD strengthen agains MYR and is currently at 4.15. Despite oil prices going up how come our ringgit is not moving ? is it a hint to play on export counters?

Friday 7/10/2016 market ideas:

1. WCT: mainly playing on budget announcement. Today up up again. Cut if close below 1.68.
2. HEVEA: It is trading at its resistance of 1.27, which will determine whether it will break out or not. You can que lower , or you can buy at breakout 1.28. Cut loss if it goes below 1.24.
3. TALIWRK (refer to 6/10) really many FIFO play but holders don’t worry, it is at support now. I think this counter will give love letter soon.
4. OWG : bullish signs appear, it is now at its support. OWG cut if below 2.24.
5. SKPETRO and DIALOG to rally along with oil. SKPETRO cut if below 1.59 and DIALOG close below 1.5 then cut loss. SKPETRO is up up and DIALOG is currently on support.

Continue to follow:
1. Kimlun (midterm): First highlighted two days ago when price was 2.14. any pull back is a good chance to enter and remain TP of 2.50.
